The Smart Card Group are a Smart Card and security company who provide in-depth consultancy, tailored Smart Card solutions and up-to-the minute industry analysis on a global scale. The Smart Card Group is made up of three companies - Smart Card News Ltd, Microexpert Ltd and Glenburn Technologies.
Microexpert is a specialist Smart Card Consultancy which was originally founded in 1986 when Smart Card technology first started to be developed. During this time Microexpert has been involved in many national and international Smart Card projects. The company’s specialists were the architects of the Mondex electronic purse scheme and the inventors of the Multos multi-application Smart Card operating system.

As part of the Multos development we were the first to propose to Sun Microsystems the use of the Java virtual machine on a Smart Card. Microexpert has also been actively involved in the development of Smart Card management systems, one of which was developed by DataCard for American Express. Currently the Smart Card Group has developed a new security system for citizen cards using JCOP duel interface cards, which is currently being used by local authorities in the UK.
